Model History
The BMW 503 is a two-door coupé or convertible based on the BMW 501/502 luxury-class saloon of the time, featuring a more powerful version of the V8 engine.
The aluminium body, originally designed by Albrecht Graf von Goertz, was manufactured by the Baur company (Stuttgart) and built on a sturdy tubular steel frame.
Between 1956 and 1960, 412 vehicles were built in two series – 273 coupés and 139 cabriolets.

The Series I and II vehicles differed in the transmission, the automated window technology and soft-top mechanism, and optical details such as the trims and ashtrays.
Thus, the steering wheel gearstick used in the 1st series was replaced by a gearstick in the 2nd series.
The hydraulic window regulators became electric (the soft top mechanism remained hydraulic). The trims at the rear were first curved upwards, but in the 2nd series, they were straight. The ashtray was next to the radio speaker on top of the dashboard instead of underneath it.

The vehicles were popular in their day among celebrities from industry and film.
For a long time, the 503 was overshadowed by the legendary, sporty Type 507 – but its charm has become increasingly appreciated by collectors.

Vehicle History
This BMW 503 Coupé Series II was initially exported to Switzerland and sold to the second owner (Germany) around 1980 due to old age. In 2001 the 3rd owner took over the car – in 2013, this 503 was sold to the current (4th) owner.

In the past few years, the car has been extensively overhauled technically by Feierabend GmbH in Würzburg – this included a complete overhaul of the original engine and servicing of the chassis and brake system with new parts.
The original leather of the interior has been re-upholstered and has a beautiful patina. The carpets and headlining were also renewed at the same time.
The exterior paintwork has been touched up and has a certain patina, which suits the overall aesthetic/appearance well.
In addition to the optional Zimber sports steering wheel, the car was equipped with central locking wheels, which were also used on the BMW 507.

Conclusion
This 503 Coupé of the 2nd Series is fast and reliable, perfect for longer journeys, but equally suitable for sporty drivers.
The technical condition of the vehicle is good, and in the past years – to the delight of the previous owner – it has been running very well.
Various original documents – such as the original Swiss vehicle registration document, service and maintenance invoices, and lists of the work carried out by Feierabend GmbH – are available.

The toolbox/the onboard tools are complete.
